Snip Snip

In 2005 I lost someone dear to my heart. My cousin Allan. This post and gesture is for you, Allan. <3

I have been growing out my mane for my wedding and it occurred to me that rather than just chopping it off the moment after my vows were complete (as originally planned) I should wait and cut it when it was longer. To donate to Locks of Love, to be precise. So here we are, two and half months out and my hair is SHAGGY. And I don't mean Mr. Boombastic.

I know you love my mirror fish. Stop lying.
I took this picture on my way to the salon, in fear that I would forget just how long this hair was.

I marched into the salon, met my new stylist and told her we were going for it. This salon actually doesn't charge for their upscale hair-do's as they are a sponsor for Locks of Love. Awesome! I told the stylist about my blog and why I needed pictures of my hair before and after and she was thrilled to comply.

I have so much hair they had to divide it into 2 separate ponies, so I got to donate two! She begins to cut.

11 inches baby!! A little crazy and quite a change. My head felt about 5 pounds lighter by that time. We begin to chat and she asks me what nationality I am. "Italian, Irish and German". I assume she's asking because I have an unusual hair texture. This was my fave part of the night...her next sentence. "Haha I'm asking because when I first saw you I assumed you were Slavic or something because of how you look and your height and build. I expected you to have a thick accent hahaha". I almost fell off my chair laughing. We had a nice giggle together and continued on the journey.

I've always wished I had an accent. At least I look like I have one, right? About an hour and lots of blow drying and hair fluffing I was ready to face the world with a new look. I went in with pictures of Carrie Bradshaw and Katie Holmes. Yes, I'm aware that I just combined a fictional character with a real human.

I think I got a pretty good mix of the two, I walked out with straight-ish hair but it can be done curly too, of course. If I had to straighten this beast every day I'd throw myself off a bridge. Without further delay...

I feel like Jackie O, which is awesome!

And yes, that flip mine does at the bottom, is totally natural! Aaron approved, of course as I've been cursing my hair for the past year +. This morning I stopped over to show my mother because she had been leery of the haircut plan. I walked into their living room and Dad was still home. "Oh my, what happened to you?" Suffice it to say that was my least favorite reaction thus far. Dad, I love you, but C'MON!! Mom came rushing out of the bedroom (looking a mess) and proclaimed that she loved it and ran to get her camera (after she peed, of course).

When I got to work I was dismayed that fewer people than I anticipated actually noticed. But the good ones did ;) Thanks to you all, you know who you are. It's going to take some getting used to. I can't put it in a ponytail, but I'm OK with that. I was ready for a change and I wanted to help a good cause. If you want to know where I got it cut, email me at Autumn.Vangor@gmail.com and I'll let you know on the D.L..

That's enough excitement for one morning....Curly hair pics to come soon! I know you're dying to know LOL.

XO Autumn Van Weir

  3. Thank you Swarles, my love!!! xo

Amy you can do it!! Just say "a little bit more!" and go for it! There is also an organization through Pantene that accepts 8 inches..."Beautiful Lengths" and it's the same concept! So if you cant do 10 or 11, do 8! ;)
